Annex Quest House is North America's first vastu
home away from home, featured in the Globe and Mail and the
Toronto Star.
Vastu, a sister science
of yoga, is an ancient holistic design science which creates rooms that are
holistic, cozy and hospitable. Each ecologically friendly room is
equipped with ensuite bathroom, coffeemaker, mini-fridge, internet, cable
television and more. Parking and laundry are also available.
Designer
Kathleen Cox, the founder of Vastu Living and former long-term resident of
India, worked with Toronto-based wood artisans to create the vastu ambience
at Annex Quest House. Guest rooms, which are individually dedicated to
the basic elements of air, fire, water, and earth, have soothing yet vibrant
colors that reflect the physical and psychological property of each specific
element. The décor in each of the rooms observes the vastu preference
for asymmetry in the placement of the furnishings. Asymmetrical
design, which flows through the world of nature and conforms to the features
on the human body, helps guests feel at ease. Every guest room also
honours the heart of the vastu philosophy, which advocates the protection of
the environment and all of its creations. Dark pine can be found
throughout the Quest House. The wide-plank floors, tastefully simple
beds, side tables, bureaus, towel racks and even toilet paper holders
are all holistic creations. Most were hand-crafted with minimal wastage,
and integrate beautifully into the completely natural décor. Private
ensuite bathrooms have bevelled copper sinks and hand-crafted handmade
wooden basins.
Annex Quest House is within walking distance of the University of
Toronto, Royal Ontario Museum, Casa Loma, Queen's Park, Fields Institute,
new Varsity Stadium, Mirvish Village, and the shops of Bloor Street and Yorkville.
Conveniently located steps from the north entrance of the Spadina station on
both east-west and north-south subway lines, Annex Quest House
offers easy access in minutes to downtown attractions such as the Rogers
Centre (SkyDome), Air Canada Centre, CN Tower, Metro Toronto Convention
Centre, University Avenue, Bay Street business district, City Hall, Eaton
Centre and the Yonge Street shopping district.
